Can Increasing Storage Increase the Chances of Crash

Due to the advancement in the storing technology, it has become possible to store more data on your computer. Now you can get hard drives up to 1 TB to store you valuable data as much you want.

But have you ever thought about the other side of this increased storage capacity? Is it safe? This is the most important question for the IT Professionals. Increased storage capacity is not always beneficial. The most important disadvantage is that it decreases the accessing speed of your hard drive and ultimately decreases your computer performance.

High capacity storage media can cause your computer to hang or freeze and sometimes can lead to a failed or crashed hard drive and can lead to data loss.
The modern technology of high storage capacity is RAID (Redundant Array of Identical Disks). It is an array to repetitive disks that creates the copies of stored data on different drives attached in the array. It is treated as best and most reliable storage mechanism.

But these also are not completely fail proof and can get damaged and may cause data loss. As the storage capacity increases, the possibility of hard drive crash is also increases. When it is possible that RAID drives are also can fail, then nothing can be considered as a reliable storage media no matter what is the storage capacity of it.

When it comes to high storage media, you need for high performance computer if you want to decrease the hard drive crash and it is not possible for individual users to purchase such kind of systems.

But there is no need to worry about it. Every problem has solution. You can get your data back in this case also where your large hard drive or RAID has failed or crashed and you have lost all of your data stored on them. It is possible with the advanced technology of data recovery software and services.

It depends on the type of crash that what option you should use. If your drive is crashed logically like partition deletion, File Table corruption, and operating system failure, you need for data recovery software to recover the lost data. On the other hand, when you have lost the data due to physical damage to your storage media, you need for data recovery service.

Data recovery software are different depending upon the operating system and file system used in your computer. There are different data recovery software available in the market that provides recovery solutions from different operating systems. But in case of data recovery service, the process of data recovery is same for all operating systems and their file systems.

There is a wide range of companies that provides data recovery solutions. Some to them provides data recovery software, some other provides service and there are some companies that provides both software and service solutions. Stellar Information Systems Ltd is a trusted and most familiar company that provides both software and service solutions to recover your lost data.

Data Recovery after Disk Defragmentation

The operating system stores a file on hard drive on multiple locations by dividing it into several parts. It causes a file to become fragmented. It decreases the accessing speed of your computer as sequential reading or writing of data on the fragmented hard drive is slowed down because the time required for the drive head to go between fragments and waiting for the drive platter to spin into positions is increased.

To fix this problem, you need to “Defragment” your hard drive. Defragmenting is a process to arrange all the files in as much contiguous space as possible. You can perform this task with the help of inbuilt windows utility “Disk Defragmenter”.

Disk Defragmenter examines local drives and consolidates the fragmented files so that every file can occupy a single and contiguous space on the drive. It allows programs and data to run more quickly and efficiently because the OS doesn’t have to read or write files from or to multiple locations.

Though, disk defragmenting increase the accessing speed of your computer, but it’s not always beneficial. Sometimes it may create serious problems especially in case when you use disk defragmenting after data loss.

What happens when you use disk defragmenting after data loss?

In case when you have deleted a file accidentally or formatted your hard drive and you run disk defragmenting, the defragmenting shift the files on the cluster from which you have deleted file. In the process of defragmenting, the Defragmenter rearrange the clusters, in these situations, the path of your files may get changed.
When the path is changed, the general data recovery software can’t recognize or locate the lost data and may fail to recover your data. In these circumstances, you need for good data recovery software like Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery software. It might possible that disk defragmenting may overwrite the data, in these cases, software solutions for data recovery becomes very difficult or sometimes may be impossible.

7 Basic Steps to Perform Windows Data Recovery

Remote Data Backup to Protect your Business Information

How would your business be exaggerated when there was a system failure that completely wiped your computer system? How much time would it take to recover? Data Backup, specially, online or remote backup is absolutely something that the intelligent businesses (large or small) should think and apply.

All of the critical information on your system like office documents, financial documents, customer files, contacts, accounting programs and more should be backed up or saved somewhere else. Remote or online backup is very important to consider if you really value the critical information stored on your computer.

Remote or online backup is the process of storing your critical information to any remote location on the server. It is the safest way of backup because the data is stored on the remote location and if any problem occurs in your computer it won’t affect the backup. If you have taken the backup on local machine then it might possible that your backup is also got affected when the data loss occurs.

You can use the backup whenever you require it to recover your data if any data loss occurs. The data may loss in a variety of way and for various reasons. Power surges are comestible of leading to data loss, especially for computers without UPS.

Unluckily, computers are susceptible to hard disk crashes, virus attacks; accidental deletion and natural disaster can wipe everything instantly.

You can take remote backup using different kind of backup software. These software save the selected data on the FTP server. The software requires being installed on the computer from which you want to backup the data. Whenever the data loss occurs, the data can be accessed from the FTP server and can be recovered.

There are numerous data recovery software are available that can be used to backup your data. Among these data backup software, Stellar Instabackup is powerful and robust data backup software. It has several backup options, that is useful to schedule the backup. You can take three types of backup using this software- Full, Increment and Differential. This software provides the facility of both local backup and remote backup.

Data Loss Due to Power Jack and Recovery

I just bought Zenith Presidio Laptop. It has Intel Pentium Dual Core processor with 100GB hard drive and 512 MD DDR2 RAM. It has Windows Vista Operating System. I use this laptop for my office work to store all my important office files. It was working well and fulfilling my work needs.

One day, I was getting ready for my office. My laptop was put on the table. Suddenly my pet climbed up the table and started playing with it. After sometime, I found my laptop fell on the floor; my pet dropped it from the table. I check the entire laptop, and I saw that it was physically not damaged.

I took my laptop and went to my office. At office, I try to start it, but I failed to do it. My laptop was not starting and it wasn’t charging also. I took it to my place and open it. I found that the power jack is damaged and it caused the short circuit when I tried to start the laptop. And the short circuit damaged the circuit board of my hard drive.

I went to the market and bought the power jack and hard drive circuit board of same model number. I replaced power jack as well as hard drive circuit board. After replacing, I screwed my hard drive and tried to start my laptop, but it didn’t start.
I thought my operating system gets corrupted and I planned to backup my data. In order to take a backup, I unscrewed my hard drive and attached with my desktop computer. But I shocked to see that all the logical drives were empty. There was no data to backup.

I was much tensioned as I lost all of my important data stored on my laptop. All of my critical office data were stored on my laptop and it was totally formatted. I started searching on Internet regarding to any solution of my problem. Finally I came to know that data recovery is possible in my case. I can recover data using data recovery software.

I downloaded the demo version of data recovery software and installed it. After installation, I ran the software and search for the lost data. The demo version of the software, displayed all the recoverable files in the tree format and I checked for my files and found that all critical files were recoverable. I tried to save the data but I displayed a message showing that I have to purchase the serial key. I opened again the same website and purchase the serial key of the software and activated it. After activation software allowed me to save the data.

Windows Vista and data recovery

I just purchased a new computer for me. It is powered by windows Vista. Vista is a series of OS developed by Microsoft Corporation for use on PCs, including business and home desktops, laptops, media centers and Tablet PCs. Vista is the latest version of Windows operating system. It has several new features over the previous versions of Microsoft Windows, covering most aspects of the OS. These features includes improved sound quality, enhanced data security, improved firewall security, speech recognition, easy data recovery and windows recovery environment (WinRE).

I was very happy and using the enhanced features of windows Vista without any problem. Two days back I was working with my Vista and I feel that the look is not much bright; it is getting dark by and by. I wanted to create a bright finish of my computer so I launched the check disk utility (Chkdsk). I was waiting for this process to complete. After sometime I feel that it is taking too much time, so after a long period of time I decide to interrupt it and I halted it. I then restart my system and at the boot process it tried to start the check disk again. I cancel this auto check by using the option and unexpectedly it restart itself and then the troubles began. Then I used the booting processes as follows:

First Boot: - when I boot the system for the first time after this process, it showed an error message- Winload.exe is missing or corrupted. I restart it.

Second Boot: - I tried to recover it by using DVD, two attempts fail. Then I take my Bart-PE CD, start it and I can access to all my windows partition. I launched another check disk to confirm my disk, and I suddenly realized that all these conditions are caused due to check disk and I stopped it and restart my system with Bart-PE CD.

Now I found that my Vista partition was empty. But all other partitions were as it was. I decided to take a backup of all these remaining data. Then I attached an external hard drive to my computer and start tacking the backup of all my critical data. After the successful completion of backup process from my side, I decided to reinstall my Vista, and I reinstalled it. After reinstalling the Vista, my system is working properly then I decided to recover data using my backup.

But I was unlucky at this stage also, my backup get corrupted. Now I was much tensioned because I lost all my critical data that was stored on my hard drive. I thought that my data are lost permanently. I didn’t have any option to recover my lost data.

But I was wrong. I searched on the Internet for any data recovery solution for my problem and I found Stellar Information Systems Ltd, data recovery software and service Provider Company. I asked the experienced and technically expert support department of the company regarding to my problem. They told me that there is a software solution is available of your problem. You can use Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery software to recover your lost data.

I just purchased the software from company’s site and installed and start it to recover my lost data. After starting this software, I selected my affected logical drives to recover from the list of drives presented in left hand side. Then I select standard scan option to search for my lost data. This software displayed the list of all the recoverable files in an easy to understand tree format. I selected the required file and saved them to my disk. In this way I recovered all my lost data. Thank you Stellar.

Use Recovery CD to recover data and recreate lost partitions

A Recovery CD or disk is a general term for media containing a backup of the original factory settings or condition of a computer as configured by an Original Equipment Manufacturer or end-user. These days computers are usually shipped with Recovery Disk which allows the user to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system and pre-loaded software to its original condition.

A Recovery CD will also be of great help in many cases. Some of the most common instances where a Recovery CD can help you are the following:

Hard Drive Crash
Virus Attack
Malware Attack
Driver Corruption
Accidental Data Deletion
Operating System Problems
Data Corruption

CD data Recovery will help you in all these cases and help you recover your lost or inaccessible data. These discs boot from a separate CD-ROM, DVD, or hard drive partition and start the data recovery process. It starts the recovery process by reformatting the hard drive and starts copying operating system and software files. Most of the Recovery CDs use special software for data recovery and some use Windows Imaging Format based image on a partition along with a tool launched from the Windows Recovery Environment’s command prompt.

Another method of recovering data is to utilize the hard drive partitions to restore and recover data. It is a faster method of data recovery than a Recovery CD as the data is stored directly on the hard drive. But in case the drive crashes or is reformatted the partitions on the hard drive will be lost. In that case it will be essential to use a Recovery CD to recover data and recreate lost partitions.

Other cases where a Recovery CD is helpful is where the hardware configuration of a system changes, drivers and support for the additional hardware will not be present on the recovery image which will require you to reinstall the drivers. A Recovery CD is a very useful tool which can help you in a lot of cases and helps restore your data as well as peace of mind.

R&D Companies and Data Loss

R&D (Research and Development) companies, as the name suggests, have to employ in a number of research. A very sophisticated research is required to come up with new inventions. Consequently, the researchers are apt to use a huge amount of data to test a wide range of outcomes and assumptions. Because of the limitations posed by the traditional methods of data storage, R&D companies are increasingly storing their precious data electronically.

Since the computers present the needed performance while doing research and analysis, almost all the researchers in the medical, electronics, aerospace, and biotechnology industries are likely to use computers. So, most of the companies tend to have an IT department. IT departments have technically sound staff to safeguard the data and to prevent the data loss.

Research and Development is a field that needs large amount of asset because of the utter nature of the industry. Additionally, it’s not a field that obtains immediate results. Research may take several months or years before a proper product, idea or equipment can be produced. So, while the investment is big, the result may not be obvious. Any kind of data loss can ruin the complete infrastructure and capital investment.

It is very important to prevent the R&D data as the nature of data. Most of the companies create centralized reporting systems so that data can be congregated comprehensively in one place. It minimizes the chances of data loss because the flow of data is restricted. The companies also use strong data backup techniques like CDP (Continuous Data Protection) or Automated Remote Backups.

But any system is not fail proof. Any system may failure either due to hardware or software failure. If all of the protection measures fail, it may lead to serious data loss. In case of R&D data, it is not the type of data that can be recreated again if once it lost. So, it is very critical situation for a company and in this case they need for data recovery solution. They need to get it back at any cost, because data recovery is not costly then the cost of lost data.

In this kind of data loss, the data recovery is possible with the help of advanced data recovery technologies, no matter what is the reason of data loss. if data loss is occurred due to hardware failure, the data recovery service can recover data and if it is due to software failure then the data can be recovered with the help of data recovery software.

In case of data recovery service, because the nature of the data is may be confidential, it will be best to make a confidential agreement with the service Provider Company. In addition, make sure that you hire the services of the best company because the cost of recreating your lost data can be much higher than the cost of recovering your data.

RAID Data Recovery

RAID or Redundant Array of Inexpensive or Independent Disks technology has been approximately for many years, and it has proven to be a convenient and reliable storage option. Many organizations have turned to these systems to handle their huge amounts of data since they not only possess significantly superior reading and writing speeds over single drives and enhanced fault tolerance should a disk fail, but also because they provide extremely better data protection.

RAID system is great for data safety or protection as it allows data to be stored to various hard drives so that any failure to one drive in the array won’t result in any kind of data loss. It also increases the fault tolerance of the system because it should be experienced when a hard disk fails in one of the redundant arrangement of RAID. Fault tolerance is the ability of the system to keep working when presented with any software or hard failure.

As RIAD system provides the inbuilt data protection, for that businesses are looking for to prevent data loss, most businesses count on it. It protects the computer data and help users in avoiding the downtime that accompanies data loss. Many businesses and individual users bank on it to house their mission vital data like business system data (back office, emails, large databases etc) and financial data. However, as it is the case with all technologies, nothing is fail-safe, including RAID drives.

What happens when there is a main issue with the RAID systems that leads the inaccessible data? Though RAID systems are specially designed to safeguard against data loss, they are at rest susceptible to complete system failures if all the drives face problems at same time. Further problems with RAID may occur when RAID controllers do not recognize the disks in the array or if a disk is detached from a hot swappable disk bay and the new disk is swapped in incorrect order.

The main thing is that, like a single hard disk system, RAID system can also face the problems and can lead to data loss. But the main difference is, with the RAID failure, the problem can plainly spoilt the business or can halt work because the data written on RAID array is generally business critical.

Unluckily, after facing the RAID malfunction, several businesses give up the hope that the data is inaccessible and there is no chance of recovery. When the RAID failure occurs, most think that it is the end of line for the data- if RAID is broken then there is no method for data recovery. This is simply wrong and businesses need to understand that there are options to recover data. Data Recovery service provider experts can fix this king of data loss problems.

Data recovery service providers are the companies that provide the recovery of the data that are lost due to hardware malfunction. In the case of RAID systems these recovery services can recover data from failed RAID drives. These companies have specially designed data recovery labs, called Clean Room, to recover the lost data with their expert and high technical staff.

Stellar Information Systems is a leading data recovery service and software provider company that provides data recovery solution through the world. The company can recover data from failed RAID drives in following cases:

  • RAID Controller failure
  • Multiple drive failure
  • Accidental replacement of media components
  • Accidental reformatting of drives or whole RAID array
  • Array configuration lost
  • Intermittent drive failure resulting in RAID degradation

So, if you are facing any kind of data loss problem with your RAID systems, don’t think that it can’t be recovered. You can get your data back with data recovery services of Stellar.

Data Loss if NTLDR is Missing and Recovery

NTLDR or New Technology Loader is a boot loader. It used in the Windows NT and later versions of Windows including Windows XP, Window Server 2003 and Windows Vista. It is the most important part of the Windows operating system for booting it. It generally run from hard drive, but you can run it from removable storage like CD and Floppy drives also. NTLDR needs, at least, the following three files:-

  1. NTLDR that holds the main boot loader
  2. boot.ini that contains boot configuration options
  3. NTDetect.com that is used to detect the basic computer hardware

In NT based operating systems, NTLDR is the most important booting file. It performs several tasks during the booting process. These tasks include:

  • Loads the file system (FAT or NTFS) on boot drive
  • If hiberfil.sys file is found, its contents are loaded in the memory and the system resumes where it left off.
  • Else, reads the boot.ini and prompts the user with boot menu consequently.
  • NTLDR runs ntdetect.com that gathers information regarding the hardware components of the computer.
  • Begin stoskenl.exe, and pass the information to it that was returned by ntdetect.com.

The successful booting of the system is possible only if the NTLDR is working properly. If it doesn’t work system can’t boot.

Sometimes, when you start our system, you may receive an error message-
“NTLDR is missing, press any key to restart”

This error in generally occurs when any of the required NTLDR file (Ntldr, boo.ini and ntdetect.com) does not exists. These files may corrupt or delete due to virus attack or improper shutdown of the system. In this situation, your computer can’t boot. In this case, you can start your computer with the help of boot disk. You can make the boot disk by following these steps:

  1. Insert a blank CD/Floppy disk in proper drive of any healthy system.
  2. Copy Ntldr, boot.ini and nedetect.com files from c:\windows\1386 folder
  3. Write these files to disk and start your system with this disk.

After successful running of the system, you can fix this problem by copying these missing files in c:\windows\1386 folder.

Although, it’s not a big problem, it can be solved very easily. But in case, if you fail to do it, you need to reinstall your operating system. And it is essential that when you reinstall your operating system, you have to format the particular drive. It may possible that when your operating system gets corrupted, it may cause some serious data loss and can put you in dilemma. It is the situation for you where you can’t decide that what should it do? Sometimes general user thinks that it is the end of line for the data and the data is lost forever. But these data are still recoverable. You can recover these lost data with the help of data recovery software.

Data recovery software are the software programs that can recover lost, deleted or formatted data from damaged or corrupted storage devices. These are very simple and easy to use data recovery software that a general user without any prior technical knowledge. Data recovery software assure you to recover data up to the maximum level.

DVD Data Recovery

DVD (Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Disc) is a popular optical disc storage media format. It is mostly used for storing movies and data which includes music, photos and other things. It has the same dimension as a CD but its biggest advantage is that it can store more than 6 times data compared to a CD. The best part is that a DVD offers much better sound and picture quality than a CD.

All of us use computers for a lot of purposes. One of the best ways to store data is to store it on DVDs. It is a very convenient and reliable storage format and we can save a lot of data in few DVDs. It is in fact the best method to store data intensive movies and image files. In a DVD+RW disc data can be erased and re-written multiple times. It is a great convenience for people who copy a lot of data and do not want to spend money every time on new hardware.

Even though DVDs have become an important part of our lives, we need to handle them carefully to optimize and prolong their life. The most common problems related to DVDs are hardware malfunction, improper usage and data corruption. It is very important to handle DVDs properly and prevent them from scratches, cracks and any damage. If your DVDs are scratched you will face any of these when you put the DVD in the computer:

  • The disc label does not appear in Windows Explorer.
  • The contents of the disc do not appear in Windows Explorer.
  • When you insert the disc in the drive or when your computer tries to read the disc, the computer stops responding.
  • You cannot eject the disc from the drive.
  • The computer takes a long time to read the disc.

In that case your computer can not read them and you can try to clean the disc by using a disc cleaning kit, or by gently wiping the silver side of the disc with a soft, lint-free cotton cloth. Do not use a paper cloth to clean the disc because that can scratch the disc. If you still face problems you will need data recovery software to recover data from your DVDs.

The software will provide data recovery from damaged or defective CDROM, CD-R, CD-RW and DVDs. It can recover data lost due to unreadable, scratched, corrupt or defective CD or DVD media. It supports data recovery even when primary and secondary volume descriptor have been are corrupt or physically damaged. It also helps data recovery in cases where data can not be accessed and disk indicates that it is full.

Additionally, it provides data recovery from CDs and DVDs with ISO9660 and Joliet file system created on all major operating systems including Windows, Linux and UNIX versions.

Data Loss due to Registry Corruption and Recovery

Here is a reality that 92 percent of personal computers run on Windows operating system, and all 32-bit versions of Windows operating system has a storage area where settings and options are stored. This storage area is known as registry, and this is one of the busiest computer databases.

It keeps all the information about the installed programs and stored data. It instructs the computer what to do, how to do and when to do. As such, this is the most liable to corruption and breakage. There are many reasons that can lead damaged or corrupted computer registry. These reasons are:

  1. Incompatible software installation
  2. Spyware and Adware attack on your computer
  3. Virus attack that can create chaos in your computer
  4. Accidental deletion of registry file by user while repairing

Any of these conditions may cause registry corruption. Registry corruption may lead to lowered performance, inaccessible software program or data or operating system corruption. This is a very serious kind of system corruption that is very complicated to repair.

You need to maintain your registry. You can fix your computer registry regularly, but it is not as straightforward and easy as you think. Though there are some registry repair utilities available with windows operating system but it is very risky to use these tools. Because when you use these methods, you have to act directly on the registry files and it may possible that any file is deleted while working. It may cause further damage.

In these circumstances, if you fail to repair your computer registry, it may put you in dilemma. In this case you need to reinstall your operating system and in this process you may lost your important data.
